WHY
I RUN
by Katherine Fox Carr
The 5th District of Indiana has
been poorly represented for many years, by someone who does not represent
ALL of the people, and most importantly, does not represent those who
are most in need of it--the middle and working class--who have little
if any voice in Washington versus those of big money, corporate and
special interests.
My opponent is a millionaire,
who has nothing to lose if Social Security is slashed, or Medicare is
taken away. He personally benefitted greatly from Bush's tax policies.
He has the Congressional health care plan--he never has to worry about
the crooked shell game that is the prescription drug plan.
My husband and I, on the other
hand, are retirees from the middle class on a fixed income. We have
worked hard our whole lives, paying into Social Security, and count
on those benefits, as well as Medicare, to make ends meet.
My opponent also is a poor representative
of the values we hold dear in Indiana. He talks of high moral integrity,
but his actions make such statements the height of hypocrisy. As a mother
and church goer, I would prefer to have my district represented by someone
who leads by example, whose words and actions are the same.
It is for my love of America,
my devotion to democracy, and my deep religious convictions, that I
run for US Congress.
I appreciate your support in this
endeavour, and urge you to vote, regardless of your choice this election.
